Aged for a total of up to four years, including a minimum of two years in oak barrels, Castello Banfi Brunello di Montalcino is a wine of robust character. It possesses a rich garnet color, and a depth, complexity and opulence that is softened by an elegant, lingering aftertaste.
Medium-deep red. Flamboyantly sweet nose offers plum, mocha, nutty oak and a woodsy element. Broad, smooth and quite full, with a much more refined texture and a stronger primary fruit component than the basic bottling. The sweet plum and currant fruit flavors are complemented but not overwhelmed by oak notes of coffee and mocha. This generous Brunello really spreads out on the palate and fills the mouth, without coming across as heavy.Has fabulous aromas of blackberry, black cherry and raspberry. Full-bodied, with wonderfully integrated tannins, fresh mushrooms and milk chocolate. Chewy in the end. We will see if this is better than the 2001 with age. Best after 2010.Banfi?s 2004 Brunello di Montalcino is a pretty, delicate offering laced with raspberries, flowers and sweet baking spices. Fine, silky tannins add to an overall impression of elegance as this mid-weight Brunello opens up in the glass. The wine is already quite open and accessible, and should continue to drink well for the better part of the next decade

| "Americans John and Harry Mariani created this estate from scratch beginning in 1978, hiring enologist Ezio Rivella to oversee the winemaking. The work was completed in 1984, and today 2,400 acres of the 7,100 acre property are planted to grapes. Made from 100 percent Sangiovese grown in several estate vineyards, this Brunello spends two and a half years in large oak casks before being bottled. It`s the highest rated Brunello normale from Banfi to date." |
