"The 2006 El Nido is 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Monastrell aged for 26 months in new oak. Aromas of wild blueberry and black currant are room-filling. Dense, layered, and totally hedonistic, it has serous depth and concentration, impeccable balance, and a 60-second finish. A bit more structured than Clio, it will have a drinking window extending from 2013 to 2026."
Meet the big brother of Clio Jumilla, El Nido. Bodegas El Nido is a joint venture involving the Gil family (owners of Bodegas Juan Gil), U.S. importers Jorge Ordoņez, and Australian winemaker Chris Ringland. The Clio - technically a second wine of the project - is a blend of 70% old-vine (70 years) Monastrell and 30% Cabernet, all from the Gil's best vineyards in the arid vineyards of Jumilla. On the palate the wine is supple-textured, complex, with vibrant flavors of spicy blue and black fruits, just the right dashes of spice and earth, and a big-time knockout factor. It shows well on release and can cellar for years. It is remarkably light on its feet for such a powerful wine.
